Gary Petty has over thirty-five years of experience as CEO of national trade associations in the trucking industry including over twenty-five years as President and CEO of the National Private Truck Council. Petty is Private Fleet Editor/Columnist for Fleet Owner magazine and writes about management professionals, corporate transportation, and trends and best practices in the private fleet industry.

A native of Michigan, former college administrator, and attorney in private practice, Petty earned B.A. and M.A. degrees in English from Western Michigan University, a Ph.D. degree in Organizational Leadership/Higher Education/Architectural Planning from Rackham Graduate School, The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and a J.D. degree in Law from Widener University Delaware Law School.
