July 8 Update: 2020 Safety Conference is Cancelled
The NPTC Board of Directors has approved our recommendation to officially CANCEL the NPTC National Safety Conference effective July 8, 2020. This decision is made in the best interest of the safety and welfare of all parties involved. All fees paid for registrations and exhibits will be returned in full within 30 days. The factors behind this decision are: widespread reporting of increases in COVID-19 infections in Florida and elsewhere; travel bans with no expiration dates now in place at many member companies; low registration count of paid attendees as of today (90% lower than last year at this time); and low likelihood that a COVID-19 vaccine will be widely available in 2020.
We have considered and rejected the idea of trying to hold the conference as a “virtual” event. Many fleet members tell us that their companies would not permit them to present if we allowed a virtual audience.
The feeling is that this would compromise the known, trusted culture of confidentiality, security, and safety which NPTC in-person events have assured for many years, and would not allow the unique networking that is such a vital feature of NPTC meetings.
All the award winners for both the NPTC 2020 Annual Conference and NPTC 2020 National Safety Conference will be formally recognized at the NPTC 2021 Annual Conference in Cincinnati next April. Details of these ceremonies in combination with the recognition of 2021 award winners will be announced early next year.
We regret that circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic have resulted in two meeting cancellations this year and disappointment for so many. With optimistic hope and expectation, we look forward to happier days and better times when we meet again next year. Meanwhile, from all of us at NPTC, stay safe and strong.
The NPTC National Safety Conference is a two-day educational program that offers a unique format of presentations, discussions with key government officials, problem-solving workshops, expert panels, and networking opportunities. It provides attendees with insights into, and implementable solutions for, strategic safety and security issues that face today’s private fleets. Topics and speakers have been carefully chosen and represent the most relevant and current safety information available in the industry today. The entire program includes concise yet comprehensive information which is solution-centered, supplemented by extensive networking opportunities with speakers and guests alike. This value-focused approach helps attendees find just the right combination of safety ideas best suited for adaptation at their own companies, and more than justifies in multiple terms the cost of time and money to participate.
The National Safety Conference also features a special ceremony and luncheon presentation of our annual National Driver All-Star Awards co-sponsored by NPTC and International Truck/Navistar. This annual Awards Program recognizes private fleet truck drivers who have demonstrated high performance standards against their peer drivers throughout the country based on customer service, safety, adherence to company standards, regulatory compliance, and community service.
With the cancellation of the NPTC 2020 Annual Conference, this year’s Safety Conference will also feature a ceremony and luncheon presentation of our NPTC 2020 Honorees on Wednesday, September 9.
