NPTC Announces 2006 Safety Award Winners

Nashville, TN – The National Private Truck Council (NPTC) recognized its fleet members who had continued to elevate safety performance during the group’s Annual Education Management Conference and Exhibition held April 30-May 2, 2006, in Nashville, Tenn.

“The purpose of the Safety Awards program is to recognize those member companies which strive to make private fleet safety a benchmark of their operations,” said Gary Petty, NPTC CEO and President.

The NPTC/Bridgestone Firestone Fleet of the Year Award is presented to those companies whose fleets experienced the lowest ratio of accidents per million miles for the past year. These awards are given for the entire fleet’s vehicle accident frequency rate (VAFR) by fleet size and operational category. The winners for 2006 were:

LOCAL OPERATIONS (fleets whose vehicles deliver in a local market regardless of size)

First Place:        Barnes & Noble
Second Place:   Yorktowne, Inc.

MIXED OPERATIONS (Small Fleet – less than 50 vehicles)

First Place:         Pendleton Woolen Mills
Second Place:     Cooper Tire & Rubber Company
Third Place:         George’s Foods, LLC

MIXED OPERATIONS (Large Fleet – 50 vehicles or more)

First Place:        General Nutrition Centers
Second Place:    Walmart Transportation, LLC
Third Place:        Russell Corporation

REGIONAL OPERATIONS (Small Fleet – less than 50 vehicles)

First Place:        Jerico Services, Inc.
Second Place:    Metal Exchange Corporate
Third Place:       Webster Industries, Inc.

REGIONAL OPERATIONS (Large Fleet – 50 vehicles or more)

First Place:        Milliken & Company

Also recognized, were those fleets with outstanding and/or improved safety records based upon their crash rates. Winners of the Gold Seal, awarded to fleet experiencing ZERO crashes in 2005, include:

• ADM Trucking, Inc.
• BP Products North America, Inc.
• Cooper Tire & Rubber Company
• Hittman Transport Services, Inc.
• Jerico Services, Inc.
• Moen, Incorporated
• Pendleton Woolen Mills
• Webster Industries, Inc.

Winners of the Silver Seal, presented to those companies whose fleets reduced their vehicle crash rates by 40% or more compared to the previous year, were:

• Cooper Tire & Rubber Company
• Grocery Supply Company
• Hittman Transport Services, Inc.
• Marathon Petroleum Company LLC
• Metal Exchange Corporation
• Orgill, Inc.
• Yorktowne, Inc.

The Bronze Seal recognition is presented to companies who have reduced their vehicle crash rates by 20% to 39% from the previous year. The winners of the BRONZE SEAL are:

• ADM Trucking, Inc.
• BP Products North America, Inc.
• Dot Transportation, Inc.
• Grocery Supply Company
• Hudson’s Bay Company
• LPC Transport, Inc.
• Marathon Petroleum Company LLC
• Shaw Industries Group, Inc.
• Walgreen Company
• Webster Industries, Inc.
