NPTC Launches Best Practices Safety Guide

Alexandria, VA – The National Private Truck Council (NPTC) has launched its Best Practices Safety Guide®, an on-line benchmarking management tool designed to enhance the awareness, understanding and performance of safety within the private fleet community.

The first tool available to NPTC Fleet Members is the Fleet Audit, an electronic questionnaire that provides companies with a snapshot of their status in six key areas of safety performance – Leadership/Management, The Driver, Maintenance, Event Management, Culture, and Evaluation/Assessment/Measurement.

After members complete each individual module, they receive an immediate score and general feedback based on the answers provided. When they finish the entire 181-question survey, respondents will be able to compare their scores with the average scores for all participating NPTC fleet members. They will also receive customized feedback that will provide them with lists of recommended best practices for areas from which they can choose and prioritize for improvement.

“With 2004 being NPTC's 65th Anniversary, it is only fitting that we are able to now bring to fruition this extraordinary effort and provide our membership with such a powerful tool,” stated Gary F. Petty, NPTC's President and CEO. “In less than two hours, participants will have a complete picture of where they stand and what areas of their operation need improvement. By applying this value-added tool and the resulting best practices feedback, members will save months and even years of effort, tens of thousands of dollars, and be able to take advantage of the experience and expertise of some of the best safety and security practitioners in the private fleet industry.”

The Guide has been in development over the past 10 months and represents the collaborative efforts of the NPTC Safety Committee with funding from ACS-PrePass and technical and software support from Zurich Insurance and Interactive Driving Systems.
