Private Fleet Management Reference Guide & Training Manual Released

PFM Online

The National Private Truck Council and Instructional Technologies, Inc. have partnered to release Private Fleet Management Online®, an interactive, multimedia e-book that’s a how-to guide and reference manual for managers of private fleets. The comprehensive, five-volume e-book set spans the five core disciplines of private fleets, and is based on best practices, strategies and operational excellence gleaned from the nation’s leading private fleet practitioners. The content is part training material, part resource for best practices, and part reference guide for ever-changing regulations and technologies. The 900+ “pages” cover Equipment, Maintenance, Operations, Safety and Compliance, HR and Finance.

“NPTC is proud of its affiliation with Instructional Technologies, Inc., which is among the most respected and prolific sources of online driver and management training in the field,” said Gary Petty, NPTC President and CEO. “NPTC’s subject matter knowledge and Instructional Technologies’ sophisticated state-of-art technology systems and applied expertise have created a unique combination of talents to produce the Private Fleet Management Online program.  The result is the most innovative and comprehensive fleet management training service ever made available to the private trucking industry.”

“We built PFMO for two primary groups,” said Dr. James Voorhees, CEO of Instructional Technologies. “The first group uses it to study, to help advance their career, to broaden their horizons, or to tackle new responsibilities at work. They want to understand the fleet and how all parts of it run. For those people, PFMO lets you take notes, bookmark sections, and learn through text, video, interactive elements and more.”

“The second audience — and every fleet manager, for that matter — will use PFMO on a daily basis as a reference guide in their pocket. We made PFMO available on any mobile device or web browser. Imagine using your smartphone to quickly find answers; the NPTC has created an amazing resource to help you approach your fleet with the best practices. Plus, together with the NPTC’s advisory committees, we’ll be updating PFMO at least quarterly so you always have the most up-to-date information on regulations and technology.”

PFMO works on any browser or mobile device connected to the Internet. This connectivity lets you get updates seamlessly whenever you login. PFMO lets you bookmark important sections, take and search notes, play interactive video, download and print forms or spreadsheets, and search the entire contents.

PFMO focuses on the knowledge, skills, and abilities essential to successful private fleet management. Through hundreds of interviews and years of ongoing research, the NPTC categorized 47 key management tasks into five core disciplines that form the heart of NPTC Certified Transportation Professional® (CTP) designation. Leveraging the training content used to earn the CTP, this training is the most extensive curriculum for professional transportation managers available online.

Because regulations, technology, and best practices change frequently, so does the content in the PFMO. PFMO stays on top of the myriad changes, making it a reliable source for your team. Information in the books is reviewed and updated quarterly at a minimum. And as regulations change —such as the ban on handheld cellphones and the new Hazmat CSA BASIC —the information will be pushed automatically to you. It is an everyday reference book for fleet managers. Imagine the ability to search through 900+ pages of content, to watch a video, to download forms or spreadsheets all focused on keeping a fleet running. This isn’t content merely adapted to fleet leadership and oversight: it’s written specifically with managers of private fleets in mind.

Special discount pricing is available to all active CTPs as well as those candidates sitting for the CTP Examination and/or registrants attending the Private Fleet Management Institute.
