NPTC Announces National Safety Conference

Arlington, VA –

TheNational Private Truck Council (NPTC) will hold its seventh annual NationalSafety Conference September 10-11, 2009 at the Hyatt Dulles in Herndon, VA., whichis located close to Dulles International Airport, just outside of Washington,D.C.

“Private fleets have earned a reputation for unsurpassed safety excellence,”said Greg Whisenant, CTP, Transportation Safety Manager for Shaw IndustriesGroup, Inc. and Chair of the NPTC Safety Committee. “According to NPTC’s 2009Benchmarking Survey, private fleets reported a rate of 0.78 crashes per millionmiles, better than the performance registered by the trucking industry as awhole. Such strong performance can be attributed to building a culture ofoperational excellence, forged through continuous learning, training and bestpractices. One outstanding opportunity to enhance safety performance will occurat the seventh annual National Safety Conference.”

This year’s safetyconference has been designed to optimize return-on-investment for all attendees,according to Whisenant. Topics and speakers have been carefully chosen andrepresent the most relevant “state-of-the-art” safety information available inthe industry today.  Each presentation described below contains a briefnarrative highlighting the core “take-away” values. The entire programincludes concise yet comprehensive information which is solution-centered, and supplementedwith extensive networking opportunities with speakers and guestsalike. This value-focused approach helps attendees find just the rightcombination of safety ideas best suited for adaptation at their own companies,and more than justifies in multiple terms the cost of time and money toparticipate.

  • NPTC Best Practices Safety Guide:  Identify any gaps and opportunities in your existing fleet risk management approach by investigating your performance in a number of safety related areas including: leadership; culture; screening and selection; orientation and training; driver well-being; regulatory compliance; safety performance monitoring; motivation and reinforcement; incident management; vehicle inspection, repair and maintenance; and social responsibility.
