NPTC/Omnitracs Announce 2021 Fleet Safety Award Winners

ARLINGTON, VA – More than 20 private fleets who have demonstrated continued improvement and dedication in elevating their safety performance year over year have been honored by receiving the NPTC/Omnitracs Fleet Safety Awards. The recognition took place June 14 in conjunction with the NPTC Annual Education Management Conference and Exhibition, which was held live and in-person in Cincinnati, OH.

The NPTC/Omnitracs Fleet Safety Awards recognize NPTC member companies that work to make safety a priority in their private fleets’ operations,” said Scott Duvall, CTP, Chair of the NPTC Safety Committee and Regional Supervisor of Driver Operations, Medline Industries, Inc. “These annual fleet safety awards in particular recognize companies with the lowest ratio of accidents per million miles for the past year.” This year’s winners (based on safety performance achieved in 2020) are:

The 2021 Fleet Safety Awards are presented annually to those NPTC Fleet member companies whose fleets experienced the lowest ratio of accidents per million miles for the past year. The awards are given for the entire fleet’s vehicle accident frequency rate (VAFR) by fleet size and operational category:

LOCAL

(fleets whose vehicles deliver in a local market regardless of size)

  1. United Scrap Metal
  2. River Valley Ingredients
  3. Composites One LLC

REGIONAL

(all other fleets, including long-haul)

  1. Hittman Transport Services
  2. Contract Transportation Systems/ Sherwin-Williams Company
  3. Johnsonville Trucking LLC

MIXED SMALL

(fewer than 100 vehicles)

  1. Metal Exchange Corporation
  2. Sugar Foods Corporation
  3. Unifi Manufacturing, Inc.

MIXED LARGE

(more than 100 vehicles)

  1. Baxter Healthcare Corporation
  2. New South Express, Inc.
  3. Speedway | SWTO LLC

Also recognized, were those fleets with outstanding and/or improved safety records based upon their crash rates. Winners of the Gold Seal, awarded to fleets with a terminal that experienced ZERO crashes in 2019, include:

  • Contract Transportation Systems / Sherwin-Williams Company
  • CVS Health
  • Hillyard, Inc.
  • Schwan Food Company
  • The Home Depot, Inc.
  • United Scrap Metal

Winners of the Silver Seal, presented to those companies with a terminal that reduced its vehicle crash rates by 40% or more compared to the previous year, were:

  • Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, LLC
  • Hillyard, Inc.
  • Schwan Food Company
  • The Home Depot, Inc.
  • Walgreen Oshkosh, Inc

The Bronze Seal recognition is presented to companies with a terminal that reduced its vehicle crash rates by 20% to 39% from the previous year. The winners of the Bronze Seal are:

  • Orscheln Farm and Home, LLC
  • Schwan Food Company
  • Speedway | SWTO LLC
  • The Home Depot, Inc.
  • Walgreen Oshkosh, Inc.
